Tamil Nadu Govt Employees Indefinite Strike Intensifies – As the strike intensified on Thursday, the public visiting the government offices had to return empty-handed.

Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Joint Federation, which is an umbrella of 68 associations, will continue their protest to put forward their demands, including scrapping of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and filling up of vacancies in various departments.
The ongoing indefinite strike by the government employees and officials across the State has seriously affected the ‘services’ being extended by the government departments to the public on Thursday also.
Demanding increased salary, withdrawal of contributory pension scheme etc., officials of various government departments have commenced indefinite strike which affected the common man. A group of government employees staged demonstration in front of the administrative building of the Collectorate.
As the strike intensified on Thursday, the public visiting the government offices had to return empty-handed.
When the public in large numbers gathered at the Kovilpatti taluk office on Thursday, no official was there to receive applications from them or give any reply to clarify their doubts. Agitated over this, the public staged a sit-in dharna on the taluk office premises for a while.
“We are also demanding filling up of vacancies in all departments such as revenue, rural development, commercial taxes, treasury, registration and health. We also want the government to announce a minimum pension of Rs. 3,500 per month for staff of anganwadi centres,” M. Gajendran, district president of Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers Association, Vellore said.
The normal operations were affected in rural development, land survey, Commercial Tax, town panchayat and Municipal offices and also the education department.
The members of various associations would block the road in front of the Collectorate in Nagercoil on Friday, the union sources added.
